The Bureau of Indian Education is committed to creating positive, safe, and culturally relevant learning environments where students can gain the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for comprehensive behavioral health and wellness services at a multitude of Bureau-funded schools, dormitories, colleges, and universities.
The BIE has developed a new Behavioral Health and Wellness Program to provide culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness services to school staff, students, and families at all Bureau-funded institutions, including Bureau-operated schools, Tribally controlled schools, post-secondary institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities.
